When it comes to switch monitoring, one of the things we like to mention is “keeping your finger on the pulse of your network”. Without knowing exactly what is happening within your switch and the switching network, it’s difficult to ensure that everything is operating to it’s peak efficiency.

The NAMS Firefly family of products are designed to do exactly this, monitor your switch and alert you to problems. We do this through a wide variety of ways, from real time displays of traffic, scheduled reports on your network, and real time alerts.

Whether you are running a legacy Stromberg DCO or the latest Metaswitch, the NAMS Firefly can help you monitor your switch.

Since the NAMS Firefly collects data in real time, we have the ability to display a variety of information to you instantly. Our NOC Screen feature allows you to see traffic in both your SS7 and SIP networks, and highlight possible issues such as spikes in traffic, failed calls, and international calls. By tying this display in with our record search ability, we can quickly show you calls which may be suspect. This allows you quick access to vital information such as IP addresses, which would allow you to stop fraudulent international calls quickly.

In the DMS/c15 family of switches, we can set up additional alerts for you by using the switch logging. We can connect either via a serial connection, or by virtual tty in order to import switch logs directly from the switch. Adjustable alerts allow you to receive email notification when certain alert parameters are met.

Metaswitch customers can also set up additional alerts on all of the components of their switch. Whether it’s alerting with the SAS is full, or when a network element is experiencing a high amount of jitter, the real time dash board and alerting feature can notify you of issues when they start.
